Alça la destral, the debut album from Spain's Destral, contains the three songs from the Fembres Pecadarius EP I reviewed in 2022 plus several new songs all in their style of rollicking traditional metal. There are some Judas Priest-inspired guitars at the opening of "Nit fosca de l'ànima," Krokus-style gravelly vocals on "Exterminación," and plenty of galloping bass and twin guitar harmonies reminiscent of Iron Maiden with a dash of Running Wild (be sure to check out "Fembres pecadrius" if you like "The Clairvoyant" from Iron Maiden). The songwriting is good with all the songs packing a punch even though they aren't quite as high-energy as the band would probably like. I get the impression Destral rocks a lot harder live, and their production techniques haven't captured that quite yet. There's nothing earth-shattering in Destral's music, but there is potential.
