Nemedian Chronicles are a band very much intended to evoke the sound of classic Blind Guardian back in the days of Imaginations From the Other Side or Somewhere Far Beyond, only this band is all about Conan rather than Middle Earth. I like the idea, even if I have never been a huge fan of pre-Nightfall Blind Guardian. They are heavier than Blind Guardian, and to be honest, vocalist Alexandre Duffau is a better singer than Hansi. Their songwriting is pretty good too, even if they seem to take an inordinately long time to do anything. You get an intro track and then a mostly acoustic track before they really get going with the third song—almost ten minutes into the album. With a seventy-minute disc, I cannot help but get the sense that this band is at least kind of wasting my time. You could cut The Savage Sword by half an hour and have a much stronger recording, but I admire their enthusiasm. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
