With a stupid name and some gore-obsessed song titles I did not have high hopes for this, but I find it is actually some quality Death Metal with a degree of musicality that I definitely did not expect. There is plenty of pummeling heaviness to be found here, and the vocals are an extremely guttural bellow, but there is a surprising amount of melody and some real depth to the riffs and leads. Despite being a Jersey band, Trog sound more than a little Euro, with a much more melodic, riff-oriented approach, and that guitar tone is pure Sunlight Studios. A highly enjoyable blast of brutality.
