This is a really mellow, groovy album of female-fronted Occult Rock/Doom that will appeal to people like me, who are fans of other bands in this style like Jex Thoth, Blood Ceremony, or Witchrot. This band lands much more on the Doom side of the equation, and it sounds nicely arcane and bizarre. I would like if the production was murkier and had more tube-amp vibes to it, but I always say that about Doom. The riffs are good, the mood is dark, and vocalist Riley McCurry has an evocative, versatile instrument that I would like even better if it was more centered in the mix. A strong debut. |
