This one-man band out of Germany plays black metal that reminds me a lot of the early 2000s when a lot of bands were playing it melodic without forgetting to play it fast and aggressive. The lyrical content is largely socially minded and there are some short, narrated passages as well as some cleaner vocals. I'm increasingly finding mixed harsh and clean vocals to sound a little tedious—your mileage may vary. The harsher vocals are OK, kind of angry sounding, which is well in line with the lyrics. There's a lot of melody creeping into even some of the faster parts and that works relatively well, giving the music kind of a melancholic vibe at times. What I can't shake here is the feeling that the album never really takes off. There's nothing I'd call skippable, but as a whole it comes off a little flat, like it's just "there" and not going anywhere, so once it's over I can't say I remember much of it. It's one of those albums you take in the moment and don't worry much about afterwards. Nothing actually bad here, but nothing that really stands out either. |
