Hard to believe this is the 11th album for Deceased, who have a career packed with demos, compilations, live albums, and EPs going back to fucking 1985. King Fowley remains the prime instigator, though several other members have been around for 30+ years as well. This is a long-running cult band, and a well-loved one, with their signature sound and attitude intact. Though the band has been quite active in the past few years, their last two albums have been collections of covers, so this is their first album of original songs since Ghostly White almost six years ago. This band has always had their own style, mixing almost equal parts NWOBHM and Thrash with King’s rough barking vocals thrown into the middle of it all. Deceased are always about riffs, and that’s not different this time out, packing in plenty of inventive, energetic riffs that shift easily back and forth between melodic and crushing. I find this one less balls-out than their old stuff, and there’s nothing like the feral thrashing of Fearless Undead Machines, and overall the recording is muddier and doesn’t have that heavy edge I like, but this album will still show you a good time.
