King Fowley's Deceased is back after a couple of cover albums with their first new material since 2018's Ghostly White. I really liked Ghostly White and Deceased's thrashy combo of traditional heavy metal and death vocals and, while Children of the Morgue is in the same vein, the songwriting isn't hitting me as hard. It sounds great but everything from the riffs to the drum fills to the vocal lines sounds like stuff I've heard before, either from Deceased themselves or bands like Wargasm and Slayer. Good company to be sure, so I don't dislike Children of the Morgue, it just doesn't have the same level of creativity or catchiness as Ghostly White. It might not be Deceased's best work, but they are a solid band and Children of the Morgue is a solid, if somewhat unremarkable thrashy death metal album.
