This is the debut for Tour d'Ivoire ("Ivory Tower"), an atmospheric black metal band from France. This is pretty "relaxed" and even soothing, with some very melodic choirs. Even the harsh vocals come off sounding toned down—in a good way. I found the album rather monotone in that nothing really stands out other than for the occasional use of choirs. I'm on the fence about those. "Forteresse de marbre" is a little more pompous, but is roughly in the same style as the rest, with a dark and soothing atmosphere that I found just calms the nerves. Not sure if that's what they were going for, but I like that. It's definitely not black metal to thrash too, quite the opposite, but I find it works well as a soundtrack during a rainy day. |
