This band has been edging us with no less than 6 EPs over the past few years, building up to this—their proper full-length debut. (For the record, some of the songs on the EP releases are on this, but not all of them, and I don't know if they have been re-recorded or not.) This is underground, occult retro Doom just the way I like it: groovy riffs, thrumming basslines, mystical lyrics and wailing female vocals that sweep from crooning to howling without skipping a beat. Hard to believe a band like this is still unsigned, as with their obvious similarities to bands like Blood Ceremony, Jex Thoth, and Cauchemar I would have expected somebody like Rise Above Records to snap them up. The band has obviously been trying to build anticipation for this, and the risk with that is that the final product has to justify it, and this album does. If you like this kind of stuff, this is prime. |
