This is a weird album. There's nothing wrong with any of the individual songs, but this is all over the place. Sometimes I'm thinking King Diamond, sometimes Manowar, sometimes epic metal (pick your band), sometimes just straightforward traditional heavy metal, and add the occasional power metal leanings for seasoning. I don't know where the band was going with this, but The Host feels more like a compilation of songs than an actual album. Personally, when I listen to an album, I like some cohesion, and that's why I'm not too fond of this one. The songs, however, are all pretty cool and solid, even though most if not all don't really bring anything new to the table. Lots of good music here, but it's a disjointed album. I guess this would make for a nice live set list. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
