Don't let the tongue-in-cheek band name or the cheesy album title scare you away from Doublegeddon's debut, Geddon Dangerous, if you are into upbeat, traditional heavy metal. The band's origins are obscure, but their music is built upon a foundation of Iron Maiden-style galloping bass and guitar harmonies with clear, catchy vocal lines like we first heard from Riot in the Thundersteel era. Songs like "Nuclear Winter" and "The Scabbard" are straightforward, romping heavy metal songs that invite you to throw a fist in the air or break out the air guitar. Doublegeddon's approach isn't new or revolutionary and their songwriting isn't mind-blowing, but the album is a fun 37 minutes of heavy metal that is more than a little infectious. Check it out if newer trad metal bands like Traveler, Visigoth, Haunt, etc. are your thing. |
