Midnight Forces is the third album from Germany's Inner Axis, a band that plays crunchy, melodic heavy metal. I've not heard their previous albums but can say that Midnight Forces sounds good with excellent guitar work that features a nice tone and some entertaining leads. The songs themselves are a bit bland and generic, something for which the vocals bear a lot of the responsibility. The singer is good but doesn't flash a lot of range or charisma when he delivers his lines, mostly unremarkable themselves, and I wonder what Midnight Forces would have sounded like with a really top-notch vocal performance. It is still a decent album thanks to the above-average guitar work, so traditional metal fans should be able to find something to enjoy on Midnight Forces. |
