I've had my eyes on this band for a while and finally there's a first EP out, after a demo and a single. These Montrealers play some heavy and aggressive thrash metal with a very healthy dose of melody that adds quite a bit of catchiness to the songs. It's played pretty damn fast for the most part, with some squealing guitar solos that'll clean all your ear wax in one listen. There's kind of an old-school vibe going on here, but none of the stuff here really reminds me of any one band (some vocal passages remind me of Mille of Kreator in the post-2000 material). The band's mastery of the delicate balance between melody and pure aggression certainly set You've Won... But at What Cost? apart in a very crowded genre. |
