Third album from this one-man Aussie Doom band. The guitars sound and the riffs on this are solid, but there is a lot holding this back. All the instruments besides the guitars are given only perfunctory attention, and Howlett's vocals are... not great. "Uninspired" would be a kind way to put it. He just kind of gargles his way through here, not really singing and not really growling. The riffs are good enough that I want them to get proper support, and I think the man could use some songwriting backup, as he has a tendency toward repetition and dragged-out arrangements that make this kind of a chore to sit through, the more so because there are good things about it. |
