The metal maniacs from Windsor, Ontario that comprise the band Antioch have a new album heading our way and, as a teaser, put out an advance single paired with a couple of unreleased tracks via their Bandcamp page. If the track "Onward with Obliteration" is an indication, Antioch's take on thrashy heavy metal is intact and perhaps even a bit more in your face. This one comes as you full bore, with the band's trademark combo of low growls and David Wayne shrieks. We also get the unreleased song "From the Start" and a rerecording of "Phantoms of the Sky" which originally appeared on their 2014 debut EP. These two are closer to traditional heavy metal in terms of songwriting and less thrashy, with vocals that have the same screams but clearer singing in the mid-range. I kind of like the riffing that opens "Onward..." and the song itself is a high-energy affair though I find the production cluttered and noisy. The other tracks are OK, though nothing mandatory. I like these guys and hope the new album has some variety and isn't a bunch of blasting like "Onward to Obliteration." It is OK for one song, but more than that will wear out its welcome in short order. I'd say check out the album then grab this as a companion if you like what you hear.
