With one EP and now three albums since 2022, Triskelyon mainman Geoff Waye has certainly been busy. For those who don't know, this is a studio project where Geoff enlisted the help of a number of guest singers and musicians, the majority Canadian. Shattered Elysium continues on the same path as the previous material with a power metal-tinged thrash metal that has a rather distinct sound, breaking away from the hundreds of bands in the genre that sorta kinda sound alike. When I say power metal, I'm not referring to the "flowery/happy" kind, but rather a crunchy, heavy, dark power metal that we rarely ever see. The thrash is in the same vein, very crunchy, meaty, heavy riffage throughout. It's not as old-schoolish as most of the thrash we hear these days but is more modern while not falling into the trap of trendy core-ish crap or what have you—not surprising as I just wouldn't see Geoff going for that kind of sound.

Where things get a little hairy is the vocals. So, we've got different vocalists here, including Armin Kamal of Infrared who is one of my favourite thrash vocalists (he sounds great on this, by the way). Some of them, however... Well, they come off sounding a little cringy and often too loud. That's kind of subjective, but no matter how many times I've listened to the album, I just can't get past some of the vocals which sometimes bury the music and make it a chore to get past. It's not good when I'm thinking of the singer and saying, "why are you hurting my ears?" I must be getting old (well, I am). But that aside, like the rest of Triskelyon's material, this is a sound that stands out from the crowd, daring to step away from any kind of revival or whatever trend and doing something different.
