Lost Within is the debut album from Canada's Visions of Morpheus, a band that plays progressive-tinged power metal. None of the members have much experience listed on Metal Archives, but given how well they play, that clearly isn't the whole picture. The album sounds quite good, and the songwriting is smooth and inviting. This isn't an esoteric, only for students of musical theory kind of album, instead one where the catchy songs are enhanced with progressive elements that give them more depth and nuance. Songs like "Ghost" are direct and melodic while "Medusa" and "Watch the World Burn" are more involved and layered. Lost Within is an album that should appeal to both power and progressive fans with its sharp playing and abundant hooks.
