This is some good shit. Häxenzijrkell (what a name) are a German band who do this just the way I like it. These are long, moody compositions with a lot of layers to the riffs all played with a grating, cold guitar sound that still has a lot of depth and flavor. This band has a lot of Doom DNA in their sound, not being too removed from bands like Xasthur or Urfaust (I mean old Xasthur—back when they were cool.) I even hear a bit of the epic quality of Nehemah, if anyone else remembers that great, underrated band. If you are a fan of dark, occult Black Metal with a shit-ton of atmosphere but still loaded with plenty of killer riffs, then this band is doing what you like. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
