First full-length for these chaotic black/thrashers. It's a short one (hey, blame Slayer; they opened that door), but it packs a hell of a punch. There's kind of an old-school vibe going on here and it's obvious these guys have listened to a lot of '80s thrash, but it's also on the modern side of things without going into any sucky trend. The yapping, borderline screechy vocals are mostly a good fit, with a different take on closer "Territorial Pissings" where they're a bit annoying but tolerable—your mileage may vary. The music is hard-hitting, fast and doesn't leave you much time to take a breather; unrelentingly fast (not insanely so) pretty much from beginning to end, you're served with meaty, crunchy riffage that often takes you back to that of the best-known bands in extreme thrash, but without the feeling of deja vu that you get from bands that are just copying their influences. As mentioned earlier, Chaos Wasteland's music is pretty chaotic, so don't expect some shiny clean thrash here. The overall vibe is angry and often dark, but the delivery is such that's it's just plain fun to listen to. I can't say you'll find something new here, but if you like fun black/thrash that's a little all over the place, this will certainly fit the bill. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
