Yes, another thrash band. Mutank have been at this for a while, even playing Wacken Metal Battle back in 2014. I'm reminded of early Metallica even though they don't really sound like Metallica. Some of the vocal lines remind me of Hetfield's style on ...And Justice for All. So, this is mostly old school but reminds me a bit of what thrash bands were doing about 20 years ago (they remind me of a band from that time, but I'd be hard pressed to remember which one...) As far as thrash goes, Mutank are at the low end; quite a few passages would fit well on a no-frills, straightforward heavy metal album, the kind of stuff that's catchy and makes you throw your fist in the air. This is melodic, accessible thrash, an album I might suggest to someone I'm trying to ease into more extreme music and they'd still have a ways to go after this. Mutank aren't doing anything that hasn't been done before, but I must say that in the flood of thrash albums I've been getting, at least this one sounds different and leaves its mark. |
