This band is getting hyped up as the next big thing by no less than Cruz del Sur—who normally have pretty good taste, and I can't say they are totally off base, but the hype needs some tempering. This is billed as Heavy/Doom, and it is, but much more in the vein of more accessible bands like The Sword or maybe even Wolfmother than the kind of thing that comes to my mind. So this is not a band walking in the footsteps of Mael Mordha or Sinister Realm, but following a far more commercial vibe. The riffs are pretty good, but they often lack development, so they just repeat through the song without offering anything else cool. Singer Paden Reed is decent, but he sounds like he's not trying very hard, and the lack of backing vocals really points up how much grit and resonance he doesn't have. I'm not saying this is a bad album, but it is what it is and not anything else.
