Oceans is the debut album by solo artist Talia Hoit, a singer from the state of Colorado in the US. Symphonic/power metal is Hoit's genre of choice and she's enlisted help from people like Dragony guitarist Mat Plekhanov and former Edenbridge/Leaves' Eyes drummer Roland Navratil to get her recording career started off on the right foot. Oceans is full of smooth, melodic music supporting Hoit's beautiful singing and, while she doesn't have the most metallic voice, the writing was done in a way to make sure everything meshes well. It is an easy album to listen to but short of killer riffs or vocal hooks that really sink in, so while it is fine while on, I find it a challenge to remember a lot of specifics once Oceans has ended. It is a solid first effort from Hoit and hopefully a portent of even better things to come. If you are a fan of Nightwish, Edenbridge, Amberian Dawn, etc. you should keep an eye on Hoit's progress. |
