Sweden's Brothers of Metal delivers yet more majestic, ultra catchy power metal on their third album, Fimbulvinter. Like on their previous albums, a skillful mix of gritty male and clean female singing, big melodies and even bigger choruses and other power metal trappings like Celtic melodies, songs about battle, etc. are prevalent but the songwriting is excellent, so the album is quite enjoyable even if it isn't too different from its predecessors. Brothers of Metal continue to follow paths Sabaton ("Sowilo," "Berserker") and Ancient Bards ("Giant Slayer," "Ratatos") have blazed, so if you like those bands, it is hard to imagine you finding too much fault with Fimbulvinter, with maybe the exception being the song "Heavy Metal Vikings," which sounds like a metal version of a Shania Twain song. Despite this somewhat commercial dalliance, Fimbulvinter is a power metal album fans should have no trouble raising a fist and their voices along with. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
