Not a great name, but Faithxtractor have been around for like 20 years and this is their fifth album in a career I have somehow completely missed until now. I was really surprised by the quality of this, from the very pro recording to the aggressive and individual music on offer here. This is very US Death Metal, but it reminds me more of slightly edgy bands like Shaarimoth or Mithras with the sharp melodic flourishes and unconventional song structures. Make no mistake, this does not skimp on ferocity, it just puts a lot more into the compositions than just blasting away, and you keep listening because you never know exactly what the songs are going to do next, just that it is going to be good. A largely unknown band who definitely deserve to be known.
