Review

Concrete Icon have been plowing their bulldozer through the corpses of their detractors since 2007, throwing out their fair share of well-regarded releases in that time. It's been about 5 years since the killer Rancid Harmony, which saw the band dedicating themselves to a sharp, brutal sound somewhere between Demigod, Morbid Angel, and even Carcass while being highly individual, and rather than simply rest on laurels, Voracious Streams has come to shift their sound in a slightly different direction to create their best work to date.

While still indebted to the likes of Demigod and Morbid Angel, Concrete Icon have leaned more on ferocity and technicality in a way that recalls old Deicide and Immolation this time around. This might be due to some lineup changes, but whatever caused this change, it's led to the band sounding tighter and more violent than ever before, content to bow before the altars of American death metal before snapping the bones and gargling the marrow of any foolish enough to dismiss them as derivative. This is an erudite work of challenging, violent music from a band that knows its tradition and builds upon it to get with each release, and I'm happy to be here and sing their praises as I'm swept in their voracious streams and stripped of my flesh down to the grisly bones. Highly recommended.
