France's Mortuaire present with Monde vide ("Empty world") a powerful, majestic slab of hard-hitting death metal with doom leanings. The lyrics are in French, though that's hard to tell at times, and here and there I was reminded of Canada's Outre-Tombe, be it musically or vocally. Everything here is crystal clear, yet delivered with a raw and abrasive attitude, sounding menacing as fuck throughout; the kind of music that will get your neighbours to put up a "For sale" sign before the album is over. Everything here kicks ass, be it the guitars, drums or vocals. The delivery is insanely powerful and out of this world, calling for massive headbanging and playing all your air instruments at the same time. Mortuaire's brand of death metal sounds evil, yet is catchy as hell and downright addictive, and the doomier passages are just the cherry on top. This is one killer debut. |
