Review

I've been listening to Master of the Games, the second album from Demon Bitch (which is not a great name), for a while now and two things are jumping out at me. First, this band has class riffs and guitar work that bleeds old-school, underground metal. Second, the vocals of singer Logon Saton are a challenge. It is an over-inflected, exaggerated, high-pitched wail that wanders above and below the notes with copious vocal slides in so many places, it overshadows everything else. When he isn't wailing like someone shot him in the foot with an arrow, the music shines but I still have a hard time latching on to anything because the memory of the last vocal line is so painfully recent. If the vocals were dialed back even a little, I'd be comparing this band to greats like Fates Warning, Crimson Glory and King Diamond, even if their dense yet accessible songwriting isn't nearly as focused. I'm sure some will have less of an issue with Demon Bitch's sound and, if that's the case, I encourage them to dig in, just somewhere else because it isn't my cup of tea.
