This debut by Finland's White Death is pretty much textbook second-wave black metal. Fast, blasting, unrelenting, violent; it kicks off with all guns blazing and there's no break until the album is over. I'm still surprised by how melodic the album is. Despite the songs here being speedfests, each has melodies that make them quite distinct from each other and some are instant ear worms, like "Cunt" and closer "White Death's Power." The chipmunky shrieks—the best way I can describe the vocals—are rather unique and even though I found them a little annoying in the first few listens, eventually I was looking forward for the vocals to kick in. They just work very well with the raging aural fury on offer here. This is one of those albums I can just listen to on repeat for hours. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
