A band with a name that sounds like a brutal caveman in a pulp novel and a slab of riff-oriented Black Metal makes for something that gets my attention. The songwriting on this is simultaneously going for a regressive, Celtic Frost vibe and also a more layered, melodic approach, which probably shouldn't work but it does. I really enjoy the riffing on this, as well as the songwriting that manages to be chaotic without flailing speed. I never know what this album is going to do next, and that makes it far more entertaining than the usual run of Black Metal. A band to watch. |
