I don't typically do this, but considering the still horrid situation in Ukraine and the guts it takes to make music there still, let's all have a look at the promo blurb the band included with this: "Tria Prima was formed in September 2024 in the city of Zhitomir (Ukraine) by members of various other Ukrainian projects (ex-Drudkh, ex-Lucifugum, ex-Blood of Kingu, Lutomysl, Bestial Invasion, Cosmic Jaguar and Violent Omen). The band's style is characterized as death metal with elements of doom and dungeon synth. The main concept and theme of the band is alchemy and its different forms. Within just a short period of time the band recorded a 4-song mini-album Three Primes of Alchemy—and here it is, ready for a closer scrutiny." For what it's worth, that's a pretty apt description of what's going on here. I don't exactly know what "dungeon synth" is, but I'm guessing it's where the odd sound effects added to what'd otherwise be some pretty safe, Gorefest-esque death metal come from. I suppose there's a minor dash of Nocturnus A.D. in how the synths are used, but that just goes to show how very old-school Tria Prima is with their music, and I'll say they definitely get what made that sound work while incorporating just enough new ideas to keep this from being too derivative. An interesting start for a band with potential. |
