I can't say I thought much of this band's debut, 2021's The Train, despite some strong Iron Maiden influences, but their second album, Maze Runner, sounds better to my ears. Apart from "The Asylum," which has the galloping bass, whoa-oh-oh vocals and denser subject matter of an Iron Maiden epic, the rest of Maze Runner has a power metal vibe with plenty of speedy, double-kick drums and catchy choruses. There's still a bit of Maiden in the mix but the vocalist reminds me of Markus Becker, so tracks like "Challengers of the Unknown" sound like Septagon if they were a power metal band. I am not going to pretend the rest of Maze Runner is deep or something other than catchy power metal with vaguely dystopian lyrics, but that hasn't stopped my foot from tapping. Master Spy isn't doing anything earth-shattering, just playing some catchy, melodic heavy metal. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
