This is either an EP or a mini-album—it's getting hard to tell these days—from this Finnish one-man band. Now, this guy is named Ari Kotipelto, but he seems to have no relation to Timo, thank fuck. This is a sharp dose of straight-up Heavy Metal, with chugging riffs and a solid recording job. The playing is good, and the leads show real flair. This reminds me of stuff like Herman Frank or bands involving Gus G like Firewind or Mystic Prophecy. As a vocalist, Ari is decent, but he has a lack of dynamic, and his voice often sounds a bit strained. This is a good workout that demonstrates what he can do, and even if it's not amazing, it shows a lot of potential. |
