Sacrifice's Volume Six is their first album in 16 years, but if you think time has taken an edge off their music, think again. Superb, razor-sharp riffs are everywhere on Volume Six, underpinning the angry shouts and squealing solos. I like that Sacrifice doesn't rely exclusively on speed and use slower tempos, as on "Antidote of Poison" and "Underneath Millenia," which vary speed effectively. Don't worry, there's plenty of speed on Volume Six from the likes of "Missile" and "Trapped in a World" and they even lean into Middle Eastern melodies on the smoldering "Black Hashish," my favorite track on the album. The songwriting is true to the band's long history in the thrash scene but doesn't simply repeat the past and everything sounds as fresh as it did in 1986. Sacrifice has taken the best elements of titans like Slayer and Kreator and made something of their own and it kills. Mandatory thrash.
