I'll admit this band first came to my attention when I saw the great Marco Concoreggi (of Dexter Ward and Battleroar) was their vocalist. It's hard for me to believe that it's been twenty years since the glory days of Age of Chaos, but time marches on, and any time an old member of that storied band lands on a new project, I am interested. Ringlorn is an Epic Metal band that definitely has some similarities to the Battleroar of old, also calling in influences from classic Warlord and fellow Greeks like Arryan Path or Sacred Blood.

I wanted this to be brilliant, but I will have to settle for good. Concoreggi is mostly using his lower-pitched, growly style, which is not what I like best from him. I prefer the haunted, more ethereal approach of his younger days, but he still sounds good. The riffs are solid, if not as heavy and crunchy as I would prefer, and if the songwriting has a signal failing, it's that it is all pretty obvious. These are enjoyable songs, but they sound like a lot of other songs by other bands, and they don't really do anything surprising. This is a worthy debut, but it's not amazing.
