I’ve been stalling on writing this review for a while because (1) once an album is reviewed, I have to get it off my playlist because I have quite a backlog and I wanted to put in as many listens as possible, and (2) I’ve been having a hard time picking myself off the floor after every listen of this nice slab of furious black metal. This is aural ultra violence from beginning to end. You can feel and hear the hate with every single note, every vocal line. The band—well, it’s just one guy—sounds really pissed off and that’s right up my alley these days (I’ve been getting angrier since 2020, don’t know why—eh). He makes a lot of noise for just one guy, that’s for sure. I especially like the guitars here, heavy and razor-sharp, just eardrum-slicing stuff that’s visceral as fuck. The vocals are front and centre and glue all the fury of the instruments with an extremely harsh and hateful, violent delivery—some black metal vocalists may want to take note. It’s nothing groundbreaking for the genre, but damn, this is played with just the right attitude needed to kick the style up to the next level. This might just be my favourite black metal album so far this year, and for me it’s going to be hard to top. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
