Reforged is album number two from Adamantis, a band that plays metal with both power and epic streaks. I liked their debut from 2020, Far Flung Realm, a lot and the same holds true for Reforged. They open with the high-flying, Tolkien-themed "Ride for Ruin" and segue into the metal anthem, "Steelclad," showing off some excellent lead work and vocal hooks then bring in epic and even doom flavors on "The Sailor on the Seas of Fate," "Time of Contempt" and "Gates of Miklagard." I find "Sailor..." too long with not enough to keep it interesting, but "Gates..." does a nice job of capturing the epic vibe. The album ends here for the vinyl edition but the digital and CD versions each contain a different bonus track, so my experience (CD version) was the album ending with the fist-pumping, speedy anthem "Fall of Asterius." I like the up-tempo finish with acrobatic lead work, but if you want to have sounds of faraway lands echoing in your ears when the album concludes, the vinyl version might suit you better. Reforged is a strong release from Adamantis, with influences from Hammerfall and Ironflame to Argus and Grand Magus, all good things in my book. It might not be as epic or as power metal as some would want, but if you enjoy all those things like I do, Reforged has a lot to offer.
