This is a very promising debut from this Greek band who are adding a slightly Progressive/Power Metal sound to their base of Hellenic Heavy Metal. The riffs are melodic and tasty, and the vocals of Panos Babilis are strong and clear, with a lot of character. The general sound here is like Arryan Path meets Blind Guardian, and there is a definite effort being made to conjure the sound and style of mid-period Blind Guardian. The songwriting, as I said, is more complex than the usual, and that means it sometimes wanders off and loses track of what it was trying to do, and some of the songs have complexity just for the sake of it and would probably be better off without, but the whole remains enjoyable, and there is always enough going on to keep you interested. A really good debut. |
