Neverfade is a new melodic metal band out of Finland that formed in 2022 and released their debut album, Thieves in the Night, in January 2025. The lyrics (and cover art) speak to a sci-fi, film noir future where dark things are a way of life, whereas the music is a traditional style of metal with a hint of doomy gravitas. The songwriting is quite catchy, and hooks tend to stick around even after the album ends. The vocals are not what I was expecting from the artwork, opening guitars, song titles, etc., being a clean, clear mid-range (I would have guessed either gritty shouts or high-pitched wails), which gives Neverfade's music a bit of distinctiveness. It brings to my mind what it might sound like if Dark Forest's Josh Winnard started singing for The Lord Weird Slough Feg. Currently self-released, Thieves in the Night is an accomplished release that seems ripe for some label to pick up and distribute to a wider audience. A promising debut. |
