This is about as bog-standard as Black Metal can get, except it's good. This has all the expected tremolo riffs, snare drum abuse, and rasping vocals you want with this type of music, but the riffs are better than usual, and the songwriting switches things up enough to keep it interesting. The goblin rasps trade out with a deeper, guttural sound, and the music is not all at hyperspeed, slowing down for some more old-school thugging just when you need a break. The recording is better than I expected, but the guitars still need more grit. This is nothing you haven't heard, but it's done well enough to be worth hearing. |
