This is a Greek black metal band, but unlike many of their country mates, they do not have that distinctive Greek black metal sound. This is more akin to Scandinavian black metal mixed with a serving of Cascadian black metal. The song "Exorcism" is a little of an outlier and is the one that sounds the most like Greek black metal, but barely. The album is aggressive and often fast paced, but above all there's that omnipresent atmosphere that's like the marriage between depressing and soothing and how it hits you will vary depending on your mood of the day. The melancholy clashes with the aggressiveness but it just sounds right. The vocals are angry and tortured, and I often found myself focusing almost exclusively on them. Lots of layers to dig through, an album that reveals new artifacts with every listen. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
