Reader of the Runes - Luna is the third album of Elvenking's Reader of the Runes trilogy and, after listening to it several times, I wish they'd stopped after the last one. While there's nothing "wrong" with Luna, it sounds like a recycled version of its predecessor with the same "dark" metal vibes, same attempts to be "gritty" and "mean" undermined by the neo-classical playing, obligatory harsh vocal touches, etc. A lot of this is at odds with the folky, Celtic/sea shanty melodies, as Elvenking haven't integrated them into the flow, so you often have angry vocal lines supported by an upbeat folk melody. What is most memorable about Reader of the Runes - Luna is how unoriginal and clunky it is. It's time for Elvenking to come up with something different, as the Reader of the Runes idea ran out of gas after the last album.
