This is speed/thrash on Dying Victims Productions, so that should be all I need to say, but I'll keep typing for a bit. This Polish band goes all out on this album, often playing it pedal to the metal. It's very old-school stuff and they have a raw sound that gives the album more charm—I don't think the songs would sound as good if they had gone for something more refined. It's messy and chaotic, mostly in a good way, though there are some parts that sound a bit off and can raise an eyebrow when listening to the album. I find the singer's delivery reminds me of Carmine Blades of Seax on a few songs. Not nearly as high-pitched, but just as visceral and convincing. Lots of crunchy riffs and squealing solos call for you to dust off the air guitar, no surprise here, and despite the aggressive and raw delivery, there's a good serving of melody throughout. I can't say Phantoms is all that memorable once it's over, but it's a hell of a lot of fun when it's on. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
