A burgeoning subgenre these days is Doom bands with lady singers, and Cruzeiro are part of that, recalling to my mind works by bands like Blood Ceremony, Witchrot, or Windhand. This is grooving, heavy stuff with that occult/stoner kind of sound that I really like. The guitars will get your head banging, while singer Beatriz Onix will get your attention and keep it with her powerful wail. The mix is really good, keeping all the instruments audible, and understanding that BASS is important for this kind of thing. It makes the hooky, serpentine grooves a full-band effort, and occult riffs fests like "Death Mountain" or "Ankh" into the kind of songs you never want to stop spinning. |
