It's been nearly 23 years since I reviewed Morgue Sweet Home, roughly two years after I had started listening to death and black metal. Nowadays I listen more to this kind of stuff than anything else, so quite the reversal. Opera Medica is different from the aforementioned album, putting more emphasis on the death metal side of things, but still containing a healthy dose of grindcore. This EP is full-blast, in-your-face death/grind full of buzzing guitars delivering some razor-sharp riffage with some surprisingly catchy drum work. The vocals are a blend of growls and chipmunky vocals (with the growls taking centre stage) that bounce along the music like a well-fitted glove. Opera Medica is a cool little EP filled with evil-sounding death/grind to give your neck a damaging workout.
