On their debut, Hateful Draugar from the Underground, Sweden's Hersir lay down some hate-filled, aggressive black metal. There are some fast, tremolo parts, but in general Hersir favor heavy, crushing riffs over harsh, tremolo picking, and they add in clean singing as well as ominous keys for added atmosphere. I don't hear any songs that stand out from the rest, though none are bad, just a bit generic. Hateful Draugar from the Underground will rattle the windows but so will a lot of other albums, many with more memorable songs, so unless you are a dyed-in-the-wool melodic black metal fiend, give it a spin before you plunk down your cash.
