Is Moisson Livide black metal, heavy metal, folk metal, or power metal? The answer is: yes. Quite the blend. Add to that the fact that the songs are sung in the Gascon language, which is not exactly common. So, this is all over the place, but somehow Moisson Livide – just one guy doing everything - makes it all gel together. Considering that many bands often mess up blending two genres, successfully blending four is quite remarkable. Some of this is in the vein of symphonic black metal, some more heavy metal and sometimes bordering on thrash, and there are some more power metal songs that wouldn't be all that out of place on a Rhapsody album, though Moisson Livide is not as flashy and bombastic. The folk leanings pop up here and there; sometimes it's the instruments and the vocals, sometimes just the vocal delivery that has that folky vibe. Your head can start spinning trying to keep up with all the style changes on the album and it demands a lot from the listener, who must also have eclectic tastes in metal. This album is different from pretty much everything else out there (well, sort of), and is certainly refreshing. |
