Beyond is the fourth album from Italy's Moonlight Haze, a band that plays symphonic/power metal, led by the vocals of Chiara Tricarico who has an impressive list of guest appearances, including Elvenking, Rhapsody of Fire, Trick or Treat and even Manowar! Moonlight Haze is her main gig and, along with the four other musicians involved, has crafted a record that hits all the points fans of symphonic/power metal want. Tricarico has a lovely voice, capable of sweet, emotive singing but can also draw on some grit when called for. The soulful ballads are well mixed with the speed of the power metal anthems and there are choruses sure to stick in your head long after the album ends. There is a bit of electronic/dance music here and there, keeping with a trend that's developed in power metal over the past few years, but it is smoothly incorporated and does not detract in any way. If there is a "fault" with Beyond, it would be that it is safe, doing nothing substantially different or significantly better than many other releases in this genre, but don't let that stop you from grabbing a copy if you are a fan of Delain, Follow the Cipher, Xandria, etc. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
