The first time I listened to this, I didn't like it, then the second time I listened, I did. Subsequent listens have seen me go back and forth some, but it grows on you. This is a French one-man band that takes a Black Metal base and mixes in dungeon synth and Doom in equal parts to make for a sprawling, gloomy sound that reminds me of both Summoning and French pagan stuff like Belenos or Celestia. It's not fast-paced music, and by track three it is plain this band is going to take a long time to get to the point of anything, but once the songs get rolling there is a lot to like, and they build momentum as they go along. This isn't the kind of thing you dip into for a quick fix, this is an album you put on and really dive into, as it will only work if you are in a place to really pay attention. Good stuff, but not easy. |
