This is fun. Stealth – this is the one from Italy – plays gritty, speedy heavy metal with a hint of thrash and rock 'n' roll that's infectiously catchy. These guys don't go for polished sound and music; this has a very DIY vibe reminiscent of the early '80s, yet there's also a modern edge to the songwriting, making Metal Force less "copycat-ty" than a lot of the revival bands out there (not a complaint about those, it's just nice to hear something a little different). The clean but rough vocals match well with the raw style of the music, though sometimes the singer can end up sounding a little weird, like on the closer, a cover of AC/DC's "Dog Eat Dog" where whenever he says the title, I could swear he's saying, "Donkey Kong." I just ruined that song for you guys, didn't I? ;) Crunchy, ear-cleaning guitars, pounding drums and lots of memorable lyrics and melodies may not be enough to make Metal Force rise above the crowd, but it's a lot of fun. |
