Valhalore is an Australian band that plays symphonic and folky epic metal like their European peers. Beyond the Stars is their second album and they blend symphonic/power metal guitars and keys with strings and other folk instruments and a combination of clear and harsh singing in a most enjoyable way. Everything sounds smooth and clear, while the production leaves enough room for all the instruments to have their moments. The metal parts are heavy and the folky parts evocative, neither of which would matter if the songwriting wasn't up to snuff, but it definitely is. I saw on Metal Archives that they released a cover of "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher," from the TV series The Witcher, back in 2020 and now I wish Valhalore was the house band for the show and could be worked into every episode somehow. If a cross between Wintersun and Nightwish piques your interest, definitely grab a copy of Beyond the Stars. |
